Through 4 two-hour lectures, I will introduce the field of molecular evolution, how it impacts biology, and how the evolution of genes can be studied. While most examples will be drawn from animal biology, lessons can be applied to plants, microbial organisms, and bacteria. Expertise in molecular evolution is not required, but a basic understanding of molecular biology and molecular genetics will be assumed.

David M. Irwin
四、报告人简介:
David M. Irwin教授目前就职于加拿大多伦多大学Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology,是分子进化生物学领域的资深专家。Irwin教授主要研究糖尿病相关基因的新功能起源与进化,已发表学术论文一百余篇,现为分子进化领域顶尖期刊Molecular Biology and Evolution副主编之一。Irwin教授主要讲授多伦多大学的《分子进化》课程,该课同时面向本科生和研究生,还曾在清华大学和中国科学院昆明动物研究所授课。
